When building a new home, most people start thinking about Vastu Shastra only after the structure is complete — during interior planning or furniture placement. But the truth is, Vastu should be considered during the construction stage itself, not after. Following Vastu principles early ensures that your home’s energy, light, and layout flow naturally in harmony.
At GS Infratech, we’ve seen how Vastu-compliant homes not only feel more peaceful but also function better in terms of ventilation, light, and spatial planning. Here are some essential Vastu tips to follow during construction that can make your home positive and balanced right from the foundation stage.

1. Start with the Right Plot
The energy of your home begins with the land itself. According to Vastu, a square or rectangular plot is considered ideal. Avoid irregularly shaped plots, as they can lead to energy imbalance. If the plot slopes, it should ideally slope towards the northeast, as this direction is believed to attract prosperity and positivity.
Pro Tip: Always clear the land and perform a Bhoomi Pujan before starting construction to purify and energize the site.
2. Place the Entrance Thoughtfully
Your main entrance is one of the most important elements of Vastu. It’s where energy enters your home.
For east-facing plots, the main door should ideally be in the northeast corner.
For north-facing plots, place the door slightly towards the east side of north.
Avoid entrances in the southwest direction as they are considered inauspicious.
A well-lit, clutter-free entrance invites positive vibes and sets the tone for the entire home.
3. Foundation and Structural Layout
The foundation laying ceremony (Shilanyas) should be done on an auspicious day. Start digging from the northeast corner and move towards the southwest. This simple sequence is said to balance the energy flow and ensure stability in construction.
In terms of layout, heavier structures like columns, staircases, or storage rooms should be positioned towards the south or west, while open spaces and windows should be placed towards the north and east to allow light and air circulation.
4. Position of the Kitchen
The kitchen represents the fire element, so its placement is extremely important.According to Vastu:
The southeast corner of the house is ideal for the kitchen.
The northwest is the second-best option.
Avoid placing the kitchen in the northeast direction, as it can disturb the balance between the water and fire elements.
Also, ensure the cooking stove faces east, so that while cooking, the person faces the rising sun — a symbol of health and positivity.
5. Bedroom Placement for Peace and Rest
Bedrooms are where we rest and recharge, and their placement can deeply impact well-being.
The master bedroom should be in the southwest corner of the home.
Guest or children’s bedrooms can be in the northwest.
Avoid having a bedroom in the northeast corner — it’s considered sacred and best suited for prayer or meditation.
Keep the bed position such that your head points south or east while sleeping. This aligns your body’s energy with the Earth’s magnetic field.
6. Toilets and Water Tanks — The Often-Ignored Areas
Toilets should ideally be built in the northwest or southeast corners of the house, but never in the northeast.Overhead water tanks should be placed in the southwest to balance weight distribution, while underground water tanks or borewells are best suited for the northeast corner.
Proper placement of these utilities helps prevent dampness and structural imbalance over time.
7. Temple or Prayer Room
If you’re planning a puja room, the northeast corner (Ishan Kona) is the best spot. Keep it quiet, clean, and well-lit. The idols should face west, so you face east while praying.
Avoid placing the temple under a staircase or near the bathroom, as it disrupts the sanctity of the space.
8. Ventilation and Natural Light
A well-ventilated house is automatically more positive and healthy. Windows should primarily open towards the north and east to allow early morning sunlight. The south and west sides can have smaller windows to reduce heat gain.
Natural light not only brightens the interiors but also enhances mood and mental well-being.
Final Thoughts
Vastu Shastra isn’t just about superstition — it’s an ancient science of design and energy balance. A home that follows these principles from the construction stage naturally feels more harmonious, functional, and comfortable.
At GS Infratech, we integrate modern engineering with traditional wisdom, ensuring your home is not only strong in structure but also rich in positive energy.
If you’re about to start building your home, keep these Vastu principles in mind — because it’s easier to get it right during construction than to fix it later.
